The Brahmans scored a 72-59 win over the South Fork Bulldogs on Dec. 14 and a 57-47 victory over the Jensen Beach Falcons on Dec. 17.

After opening 2-2, Okeechobee has stacked five back-to-back wins and now sits behind undefeated Rockledge and the 11-2 Eau Gallie Commodores in district standings. The winning streak started with a dominating showing against the Moore Haven Terriers on Dec. 3. The Brahmans steamrolled the Terriers 75-25.

They followed that win up with a 52-40 victory over Port St Lucie on Dec. 7, and a 65-28 defeat of the Pahokee Blue Devils on Dec. 10. Defensively, the Brahmans forced turnover after turnover against the Blue Devils. As a whole, Okeechobee had 18 steals in the game.

In their win against South Fork on Dec. 14, the Brahmans actually found themselves trailing 19-16 after the first quarter. But a big rally in the second quarter had Okeechobee back on top 42-30 at halftime.

OHS senior Amayoa’ah Phillips had a team leading 37 points against South Fork, while senior Nakai Alex led the Brahmans with 10 rebounds.  Amayoa’ah led Okeechobee in scoring against Jensen Beach as well with 20, followed by fellow seniors Daniel Phillips with 10 and Jayquavious Thomas with 8. Thomas also had five steals against Jensen Beach.

After the break the Brahmans will be back home again on Jan. 4 for a rematch against Jensen Beach. Another big home game to look forward to will be when the Eau Gallie Commodores make the trip to Okeechobee on Jan. 18. With the Commodores currently sitting in second place in the district, the game could be a preview of a possible district championship match in the playoffs and should be a good test for the Brahmans.
