The Brahman defense forced turnover after turnover in the early going against Pahokee. Okeechobee senior Jayquavious Thomas made plays on both sides of the court in the first quarter, blocking Pahokee layups and hustling down to score a basket of his own.

By the end of the first quarter Okeechobee had a 24-8 lead over the Blue Devils.

Pahokee had a small rally in the second quarter, thanks in part to limiting the turnovers that hurt them so much in the beginning of the game. The Blue Devils also forced a few turnovers of their own, and were able to score on one of the ensuing fast breaks before the Brahman defense could get set up.

But those moments didn’t translate to sustained momentum for Pahokee, and Okeechobee quickly regained control of the game.

The Brahmans dominated the second half of the game, and coasted to a 65-28 win.

The victory brings Okeechobee’s record to 5-2 this season, and drops Pahokee to 0-6.

Senior Amayoa’ah Phillips currently leads the Brahmans in scoring through their first seven games this year with 112 points. Jayquavious Thomas and fellow senior Daniel Phillips have 53 and 50 points for Okeechobee respectively. Thomas also leads the team in rebounds with 33 while Amayoa’ah leads the team in steals with 17.
